Banned SIMI activists -Mohammed Shafiq and Mohammed Yunus, arrested two days back, had a close connection with Abdul Subhan Usman Quershi alias Tauqeer, said to be the mastermind of some bomb blasts in theArrested SIMI men had close connection with Tauqeer: MP ATS country, Madhya Pradesh ATS sources said.
Both the accused, wanted in connection with Ahmedabad bomb blasts of 2008, arrested along with three other activists here, had taken part at some important meetings and terrorists' training camps of SIMI with Tauqeer, they said.
These five arrested SIMI activists were making bids to revive their banned outfit in the country, especially Madhya Pradesh, which got a knocking after their leader Safdar Hussein Nagori and 12 others were arrested on March 27, 2008 here, the ATS source said.
Shafiq (31) and Yunus (31) - both hailing from Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district, remanded to police custody till November 2 have told investigators that they had participated in the meetings of SIMI held in Gujarat, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh in the past, ATS source said.
The accused, during quizzing, have disclosed some vital information which may lead to the people who were funding their unlawful activities. The accused were being questioned by intelligence agencies thoroughly, the ATS source said.
Meanwhile, a police team from Gujarat has arrived in Indore to grill these SIMI activists, the ATS said.
