Arunachal welcomes ULFA-Centre peace parleys

india Updated: Feb 12, 2011 20:19 IST

Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday welcomed peace parleys held between New Delhi and ULFA and said it will encourage other rebel groups of the north east to come to the negotiation table.

"It is only through talks across the table that peace can be brought back and any real sense of economic, social and political development can come about in the region", state Home Minister Tako Dabi in a statement.

Dabi also appreciated the ULFA pro-peace talk group's decision to hold talks with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Home Secretary G K Pillai.

The continuity of the peace talks was welcomed as the people of the region are "fed up of extortion, kidnapping, killings and bandh calls."

Dabi said he had on behalf of the state government time and again endorsed peace talks with all underground outfits in the North East, particularly ULFA, NDFB and NSCN factions.
