Asaram refuses to go through blood or urine test

india Updated: Sep 11, 2013 20:14 IST

The father of the 16-year-old girl, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by self-styled godman Asaram, has demanded that a narco-analysis test be conducted on the spiritual guru.

Talking to the media at his residence in Shahjahanpur district on Tuesday night, the father said the 72-year-old Asaram should go through polygraph and brain mapping tests since he claims to be innocent.

“These tests would bring out the truth before the people and the world,” he said. The girl’s father said his family is prepared for every inquiry.

Stressing on a CBI inquiry, he said those supporting Asaram should also demand a probe by the agency so that the truth could be revealed. Asaram is currently under judicial custody in Jodhpur.

On Monday evening, Asaram had refused to give his blood samples for some laboratory tests advised by the medical board, apparently fearing a narco-analysis test. He allegedly asked the staff if a narco test would be conducted on him.

Doctors have advised four blood tests for Asaram, but when a laboratory technician tried to take his blood sample after the MRI and ECG tests, he refused.

But Asaram has given in writing that he does not want to go through any blood or urine tests.

“He was looking afraid when the police team brought him to the MRI centre,” a senior doctor said.

Based on the tests, the medical board is supposed to submit its report to the district and sessions court whether the godman should be allowed medicated food in jail. Asaram had moved an application in the court in this regard.

The teenager has accused Asaram of raping her at his ashram at Manai near Jodhpur on August 15. The girl was studying in Asaram’s Chhindwara gurukul in Madhya Pradesh before she was sent to the Jodhpur ashram so that the godman could perform a religious ceremony for her.

Earlier this year, Asaram’s sparked a controversy after he suggested that December 16 Delhi gangrape victim was as responsible as the rapists for the crime. The godman said the girl could have saved herself had she addressed the rapists as “brothers” and begged them to stop.
