The supporters of self-styled godman Asaram clashed with the police at his ashram in Manai, 30 km from Jodhpur, on Sunday. The police lathicharged the group, which was trying to block the convoy and more than a dozen men were arrested.
Asaram’s arrest on Sunday has put his supporters on edge. But while a fragile peace was maintained in Indore, things came to a boil at Manai when the police took Asaram to the ashram for a verification of the spot.
Asaram had allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl at the ashram on August 15.
There were around 150 supporters at the ashram on Sunday. As the police team left the premises around 7pm, some of the supporters, who were in vehicles, blocked the road. Others shouted slogans against the police.
To clear the road, the police resorted to lathicharge, in which around six people were injured. Over 12 men were arrested and six of the vehicles were seized by the police.
