The ashes of the veteran CPM leader Harkishan Singh Surjeet who breathed his last in a Hospital at Noida, last Friday were immersed on Tuesday on the banks of river Sutlej near National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala, 12 kms from district headquarters.

It is pertinent to mention that this is the same sacred historic place where Shahid Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, who were unceremoniously cremated by the British following their hanging in the Central Jail at Lahore on March 23, 1931.

An architect of Left movement in the country, Surjeet had desired that his ashes should be immersed on the banks of river Sutlej after his death.
