Ashwin adds depth to batting

I think the first hour of play pretty much decided the winner at The Oval. India lost an important toss and were in trouble at 25 for 4. For India to have recovered to 234 in tough conditions is laudable.

MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja showed a lot of mental toughness, and sent a message that India are not prepared to give up even at the end of a long and hard tour.

Dhoni is getting better with every game. One can see this India team, without its main players, beginning to fight back, and a lot of credit must go to Dhoni and Duncan Fletcher. Jadeja was impressive in his first game of the tour. He looks every bit like a street fighter, with the ability to be patient and play big shots when required. Ashwin was impressive too.

India now have that crucial batting depth up to No 9.

I thought England let India off the hook after having them on the mat. I thought they bowled a bit sloppily in the middle overs, especially during the batting powerplay, when they allowed the batsmen a lot of width.

Jadeja and Ashwin bowled really well. India's fielding was much improved in this game, but it can still be better.
