Ujjain Lokayukta sleuths caught an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) accepting bribe of Rs 20,000 at Piploda police station under Ratlam district on Tuesday.

Ujjain Lokayukta superintendent Siddharth Choudhary told HT that the special police establishment caught ASI Jandel Singh Gurjar posted at Piploda police station with the bribe amount.

Superintendent Choudhary said they had got a complaint from Vikram Singh that Gurjar was pressuring him to pay bribe for clearing his name in a case related to sale of liquor. Gurjar also asked Singh to pay him money on a monthly basis to avoid any legal action against him in future.

On receiving the complaint, a team of Ujjain Lokayukta sleuths laid a trap and caught ASI Gurjar while accepting bribe at the police station. A case under Section 7, 13(1) d and 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 has been registered against him and further investigations are on.
