The Assam government on Friday urged Infosys Technologies Limited chief mentor NR Narayana Murthy to open a campus in the state.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had also requested Murthy to help promote the state as a major IT hub in the country.
Murthy assured the state government of his company's full assistance to promote IT in the region.
Gogoi also said geographical isolation of the region, which proved to be a hurdle in industrialisation, would not pose to be a problem for development of IT professionals.
The Infosys chief mentor and Gogoi also discussed ways to place Assam, in particular, and North East, in the nation's IT map.
The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) also wrote to the Chief Minister on Thursday, asking him to exhort the Infosys chief mentor to open a campus in the state and allot government land for the purpose.
