A prospective candidate for Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) elections, along with his associate, was shot at by unknown motorcycle-borne assailants near old municipal corporation office on Wednesday evening. While Binder Gujjar suffered serious injuries, his aide Anil Kakran died in the attack.
Gujjar, a former municipal councillor, was a probable candidate from ward 21 on the ticket of a national party though his name was still to be formally announced. Gujjar was likely to file his nomination on April 30.
Gujjar was rushed to the civil hospital that immediately referred him to the Medanta Medicity hospital. His condition is stated to be critical.
According to a police source, the assailants fired seven rounds. Kakran was hit on his chest while they pumped three bullets in Gujjar chest and abdomen. “The assailants were on the bike and they opened fire when both the victims were coming out from the old municipal corporation office at around 7.30pm. Later they managed to run away from the spot,” said the source.
The police are investigating the matter from all possible angles.
“We are investigating the matter and at the moment this is not possible to comment on this issue.” said DCP (west) Maheshwari Dayal.
According to the source, Gujjar was earlier survived two life attempts. He was allegedly involved in many crimes.
