THE Juhu-based astrologer, Hasmukh Rathod (55), who was arrested on Wednesday, first raped the 21-year-old girl from Mira Road and subsequently told her to allow her father, Kishore Chauhan (49), to have sex with her, claiming that it would usher in prosperity to their family.
This has been revealed in a remand application filed by the Mira Road police in a Thane court on Thursday. A copy of the application has been accessed by HT.
The application was filed by the police while seeking the custody of Rathod, Chauhan and his wife Anjana (46) for further investigation. Quoting the 21-year old complainant, the document says that Rathod had told her to “have sexual relations with your father for prosperity of the household”. Rathod is alleged to have performed black magic on the couple and convinced the victim to have a sexual relationship with her father.
The document also claims that nine years ago, when the victim (the elder daughter) started protesting, her parents threatened her to comply, failing which she would be thrown out of the house.
A few months ago, Anjana had, with her husband’s approval, taken her younger daughter (now 17) to Rathod’s house, where she was raped (by Rathod) for the first time, the police have said in the remand application. The police suspect that, in a bid to convince the younger daughter to have sex with Rathod, Anjana herself used to undress in his presence.
Police investigations have revealed that Chauhan and Rathod had repeatedly raped the complainant and her younger sister with Anjana’s complicity.
About a month ago, the complainant (elder sister) had confided in a friend about the incest, the police said. “Her friend spurred her on to fight back and confide it in some relative,” sub-divisional police officer Maithli Jha said. The probe has also revealed that the girls’ parents never allowed their elder daughter to visit any relatives alone for fear that she would spill the beans.
