At least 10 people were killed and 15 others severely injured when a state-run bus in which they were travelling collided with an overspeeding truck in Nalgonda district of Telangana on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the afternoon when the Telangana Road Transport Corporation bus from Bhuvanagiri to Nalgonda collided with a Haryana registered truck at Indrapalemnagaram about 100km from capital Hyderabad, officials said.
“Ten people including the driver and a child were killed in the accident. The reason for the accident is the overspeeding of the truck,” state transport minister Mahendar Reddy said after visiting the spot.
The locals and police responded quickly pulling out the injured trapped in the bus and shifting them to local hospitals in Ramannapet. Some of the seriously injured were rushed to speciality hospitals in Hyderabad.
The truck smashed into the driver’s side of the bus, killing passengers seated on the side. The driver of the truck was reportedly absconding following the accident.
The state government announced Rs 2 lakh compensation to the next of kin of the dead.
