Israel continued air and ground military operations in the Gaza Strip Friday morning, leaving nine killed, including two children.
The Israeli army said the operations against targets in the Gaza Strip were in retaliation to Palestinian militants' homemade rocket attacks on Israel.
Palestinian security sources and eyewitnesses said that Israeli helicopters fired two missiles at a house in Gaza City, owned by the family of a Hamas militant who died in a suicide bombing on the Israeli border.
Earlier, a spokesperson for Hamas's militant wing promised a swift and fierce response to the incursion.
Hamas and Islamic Jehad militants said in separate leaflets that they had fired several homemade rockets at Israel from Gaza Strip, mainly at the town of Sederout in southern Israel.
