The 10 suspected Naxalites nabbed by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) unit at Pune railway station recently, had links with the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) in West Bengal, where they were wanted in connection with various offences, according to a remand plea submitted by the ATS to a court here.

The suspects, according to a statement filed by the ATS officer Vinod Satav on Monday, were being probed for a possible attempt to recruit locals in Pune region as cadres of the Maoist outfit, after their arrest on May 13.

The ATS has recovered firearms and Maoist literature from the accused persons whose police custody has been extended till May 26.

Investigations are on to unearth the information regarding the extent of Maoist penetration into parts of Maharashtra, Satav stated.
