AU students protest park handover

ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY students staged a protest here on Saturday against the decision to hand over the Lal Padamdhar Park to Rotary Club. They blackened a board bearing the Rotary Club?s name and rewrote Lal Padamdhar?s name on it.

ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY students staged a protest here on Saturday against the decision to hand over the Lal Padamdhar Park to Rotary Club. They blackened a board bearing the Rotary Club’s name and rewrote Lal Padamdhar’s name on it.

The students threatened to disrupt the functioning of the Allahabad Development Authority if the authorities failed to take the park back from the Rotary Club.

A large number of students led by Abhishek Shukla reached the park at Civil Lines. Addressing the students, Shukla said that Lal Padamdhar sacrificed his life fighting the British Government. Students would not accept any act of dishonour against the martyr, he added. He said students would gherao district and ADA officials. Those present on the occasion were Sanjeev Rai, Ziya Quonain Rizvi, Kaushal Singh Patel, Anshu Singh, Ashu Pandey, Deepak Shukla, Lalaram Saroj, Umesh Upadhyay, Ajit Bhaskar and Manish Singh among others.

Meeting: AU Ministerial and Technical Staff Union (MTSU) members met AU Finance Officer to put forward their demands here on Saturday. The members led by MTSU president Akhilesh Srivastava claimed that the FO assured to implement the medical facility and LTC from September 1, 2006 besides considering their other demands. MTSU members claimed that they were assured by the FO to disburse the payments of the employees and their dependants against medical expenses during the current financial year after submitting the proof of medical treatment. It was decided in the meeting to prepare a list of daily wage and muster roll employees to adjust them on regular pay scales according to the seniority. It was also decided to prepare a format to bring about changes in the salary of teaching and non-teaching employees and to present the format to the concerned committees.
