Australia's SBS Punjabi radio channel wins UN award

A radio documentary about domestic violence and other related issues in the Australian-Indian community has won the United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA) media award.

A radio documentary about domestic violence and other related issues in the Australian-Indian community has won the United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA) media award.

The documentary was awarded this year in the category of "Increasing understanding and awareness of women's rights and issues."

"SBS Radio Punjabi programme 'The Enemy Within' explored a complex issue of domestic violence in Indian migrant communities. Manpreet Kaur Singh and Sacha Payne displayed exemplary skill in bringing forward a full picture of the experiences of women in violent relationships," the UNAA statement said. The award-winning documentary has also been named as a finalist at Australia's most coveted award for journalism, the Walkleys.

The Walkley winners will be announced at the end of November.

Manpreet is a well-known radio broadcaster and producer for SBS Punjabi radio channel.
