A woman working with a media company was beaten up and robbed of Rs 7,000 by an autorickshaw driver at Botanical Garden Metro station on Sunday.

The incident took place when the victim, Sapna Chaudhary, while going to her office in Greater Noida, got down at the Metro station to wait for her colleagues, the police said.

"While I was waiting for my staff outside the Metro station, an auto-driver approached me asking whether I want to take an auto. I refused at once, but he kept asking again and again. This led to an argument. Later he came out of the auto and started assaulting me. After beating me up he snatched my purse and mobile phone," said Chaudhary, a resident of Delhi's Sangam Vihar area.

She suffered minor injuries on her head and hands, the police said.

"A case has been registered with Sector 20 police station. There were around Rs 7,000 cash and a company's health insurance card in her purse. We have also taken statements of the vendors present at the spot," said a senior police official.
