Award for Shekhawat, Kakodkar and Kiran Bedi

They will receive the the 10th SIES Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati National Eminence Award for the year 2007.

Former vice-president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, AEC chairman Anil Kakodkar and India's first woman IPS officer Kiran Bedi will receive the the 10th SIES Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati National Eminence Award for the year 2007.

Shekhawat will be given this award for public leadership, Kakodkar for science and technology, Bedi for community leadership, while Sivananda Murthy from vIzag for Pravachan Kartha at a function on December 22 in Shanmukhananda hall in central Mumbai in the presence of Shankaracharya Kanchi Kamakoti peeth's Jayendra Saraswati, a SIES release said.

Each award carries a cash prize of Rs 2.5 lakh, a silver lamp, a shawal and citation. This award is given every year in the four fields mentioned above to perpetuate the memory of the late Seer of Kanchi Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati who died at the age of 100 in the 1994.

The former awardees include former president APJ Abdul Kalam, ISRO chairman Madhavan Nair, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former ISRO chairman K Kasturirangan and Carnatic music exponent MS subbhalakshmi.
