Two days after the suburban town of Noida was rocked by a series of crimes, the state machinery came down on defaulting officers with a heavy hand and began its clean up act.
JN Chamber, Principal Secretary (Home), Uttar Pradesh said Station Officer Amardeep Lal of the Section 49 police station and Police Control Room in-charge Ramesh Babu have been suspended for lax behaviour.
“Lal was suspended because criminals are taking shelter in his area and committing crime in the town. He has failed to take action to curb such incidents,” said Chamber.
Director General of Police Vikram Singh said a Deputy Superintendent of Police and a Assistant Superintendent of Police have been warned for the sudden spurt in crime in Noida.
Looking to sooth tempers, Chamber asked Noida residents to stay calm.
“On the state government’s behalf, we assure the public that they should not feel unsafe. Citizens’ security is our top priority. Security measures have been intensified and there is no need to panic,” he said.
Reaching Noida along with Chamber, Singh took an emergency review meeting on the series of incidents that shook Delhi and the neighbouring areas.
Coming down heavily on police’s laxity, the two-member team suspended sub-inspector Lal for being ignorant of criminals taking shelter and operating in the area. DGP found Babu guilty of showing laxity in reacting to the call of duty.
Singh and Chamber also visited the spots of crimes and reviewed the police’s investigation in the case. They later met the police teams working on the case and personally monitored the developments.
“Several of our teams are working on the case. It is because of the police that one of the suspects in Sheeba Thomas murder case today surrendered in the court. We have picked some important clues in the case and hope to crack the cases soon,” Singh said.
“I have directed IG VK Gupta and DIG Vijay Kumar to camp in Noida till the cases are solved,” he added.
