60 employees suspended

STATE ROADWAYS authorities today suspended 60 regular employees and terminated the contracts of 45 bus drivers and 48 conductors here.

Besides, state president of Shramik Samaj Kalyan Sangh Amar Singh was also suspended for extending support to the strikers. The authorities, however, did not lodge FIRs against the suspended employees.

On the other hand, state president of the UP Roadways Employees Association Ram Ji Tripathi has announced that their struggle in support of their demands will continue. He warned the state roadways authorities of more aggressive protest if they did not withdraw action taken against the agitating workers.

Sources said steps taken by the authorities were likely to increase the sufferings of the workers who were on contract.

Tripathi alleged that the state transport minister had allowed the action against the roadways employees with mala fide intention and for personal gains.

The suspended employees and those whose contracts had been terminated belong to Allen Forest and Central workshop. The other employees were from Vikas Nagar and Azad Nagar Bus Depots.

Sources said that the steps taken by the state roadways authorities against the employees were likely to enrage the employees further, who are demanding their long pending dues.

They said this would have adverse effect on the working of the roadways, as the action would intensify the conflict between the employees and the management in the near future. The employees’ leaders seemed to be in no mood to bow before the government, they said.
