UP minister Azam Khan, who has been taunting Prime Minister Narendra Modi by repeatedly stating ‘badshah jhootha nahi ho sakta’ (the king can’t be a liar) in all his public speeches, found yet another way to target Modi.
This time, he made news by sending brooms packed in briefcases as gifts to all MLAs, including those from the BJP in UP.
Since PM Modi had first picked up the broom to signal the launch of the cleanliness mission, Khan’s move is being interpreted as another attempt to target the PM. “In all his public speeches, he has been taunting the PM whom he has been referring to as ‘badshah’ by suggesting that he has lied on all his promises. He has also been saying that while he is trying to instil among the minorities the importance of the pen, the badshah has handed them a broom,” Khan’s aide said.
Along with a broom, Khan’s gift includes a pen and a letter. “It’s for you to decide which of the two would help more. It would also help reiterate the thought that you cannot treat the society only through plain slogans.”
The gifts were sent to legislators on the last day of the assembly session on March 26.
BJP’s chief whip in UP assembly Radha Mohan Das Agarwal said,“This proves that PM Modi’s broom has found acceptance among all parties. Irrespective of the intention of the one who has sent it, the fact remains that such acts would only make the swacchta abhiyan more popular. It establishes that even Azam Khan hasn’t remain untouched by the PM’s broom initiative.”
Congress state secretary DP Singh said the missive proves how the BJP and the SP help each other remain in news.
