Badaun case: Forensic tests conclude the victims were not sexually assaulted or raped

The CBI on Tuesday said that forensic tests done on the two teenage girls murdered in UP’s Badaun district in May have ruled out sexual assault or rape on them.

The CBI reached the conclusion on the basis of a forensic report sent to it by the Hyderabad-based Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) that had examined personal particulars belonging to the two victims including clothes and body swabs. “The CDFD report has come. It has ruled out sexual assault on either of the two girl victims,” said CBI’s spokesperson Kanchan Prasad.

The CBI had earlier referred the CDFD’s report to a medical-board set up by it to assist it in the forensic aspects of the probe. The Uttar Pradesh police, which probed the case before the CBI took over on June 12, had initially arrested five men for their alleged involvement in the case -- Pappu Yadav and his brothers Awadhesh and Urvesh, along with local police officers Chhatrapal Yadav and Sarvesh Yadav---and claimed the victims were raped then killed.

HT reported on Monday that according to CBI’s director Ranjit Sinha, the original allegations against five men arrested in the alleged rape and murder of two minor girls were 'prima facie not correct'. Sinha had told HT, "Prima facie, it appears that the original allegations levelled against the five people arrested in the Badaun case were not correct." Sinha, however, did not give specifics of the charges that have been found to be incorrect.

The victims went missing on the night of May 27 and their bodies were found hanging from a tree the next morning.
