Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini starrer Baghban will be tested for more than its commercial worth when it is screened at Hajipur for senior citizens of the district. On the recommendation of State Rural Development Minister, Brishan Patel, the film is being tried out as a medium for bridging the generation gap.

The blockbuster is the tale of an old couple (Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Mailini) that had sacrificed everything to nurture their four children, only to be left uncared for in their twilight years. How they overcome this turmoil and emerge a winner is the central theme of the movie.

At a Kavi Sammelan held in Hajipur on Sunday the elderly people of the town collectively decided to watch the movie with their children to acquaint them with the pangs of old age and remind them of their family responsibilities.

The senior citizens have requested the owner of a local movie theatre, KK Boobna (also a senior citizen incidentally) to screen the movie. Boobna said that Baghban would be screened soon in his theatre and senior citizens could watch it for free with their families. On his part, senior JD (U) leader Deo Kumar Chaurasia announced that all senior citizens would be served food at his hotel after they had watched the movie.

Needless to say, the town is all abuzz over this very innovative measure of bridging the generation gap.
