Arrangements have been made to expeditiously hand over the bodies of 16 Indians who died in a fire in Bahrain to their kin as soon as they are brought in on Wednesday by a Gulf Air flight, airport officials in Chennai said.
The bodies will be quickly handed over after all formalities like customs, immigration and police verification are completed in one go, officials told.
The dead belonged to Villupuram and Cuddalore districts. The officials said the Tamil Nadu government will station 16 vehicles to take the bodies to their respective villages.
Arrangements have also been made to help their relatives to collect and accompany the bodies.
A meeting held in Chennai on Wednesday to review the arrangements was attended by senior officials of the Airports Authority of India, police, CISF and customs and immigration.
