Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee took a dig at BJP and the “Narendra Modi wave” stating that the balloon is fast getting deflated. Highlighting polls reverses for BJP in different states recently she stated that in Bengal the party will be handed a ‘Rossogolla’ (signifying zero).

“Such arrogance such ego. But now the balloon is fast shrinking. Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Goa and other states have shown that. Here they will get Rossogolla (signifying zero). During Lok Sabha polls Congress was nowhere and there was no alternative. Where is the mandate now?” said Mamata Banerjee speaking at a public meeting commemorating the foundation day of Trinamool Congress Chattra Parishad (party’s student wing) near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Maidan.

“We have many popular traditional sweets here in Bengal. Like Rossogolla, Mihidana and others. We will give them. Eat, be merry and sleep. Stay well and stay quite” she said.

The chief minister referred to the two Assembly by polls which are scheduled to be held in Bengal in September 13. The BJP recently experienced poll reversals in Bihar, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and others. In Bihar where BJP won 33 out of 40 Lok Sabha seats, could only get four out of ten Assembly seats, which went for by poll recently. In Uttarakhand Congress bagged all three seats in by polls.

The chief minister highlighted that the central government has been neglecting the state in all respects despite Bengal being under financial duress. “You are not helping me in any way. Instead Rs 1 Lakh crore is being taken away by the center. How will I build roads, schools, colleges and universities. Yet I am doing it,” Mamata Banerjee said.

She also compared her government with that of the center and stated that her government doesn’t make noise but gets the work done. “We do not make noise but deliver. Now they are saying that bank accounts will be opened (referring to Jan Dhan project). We have already done that in Bengal. We have also done e tendering and e tax collection among other initiatives,” said Mamata Banerjee. She highlighted that in skill development, small scale and medium industries and in NREGS among others Bengal is ‘number 1’ in the country.

“They are spearing canards on our Singapore trip. A lot of foreign investor are keen on investing in Bengal despite all this,” she added. Mamata Banerjee also accused BJP of spreading communal fire in Bengal and trying to instigate riots. “We keep Hindus and Muslims both close to our heart. We do not believe in such divisive politics. Some parties are trying to fan riots here. We will not allow that,” she said.
