Serial rapist Jaishankar was nabbed on Friday five days after his sensational escape from the high-security central jail in Bangalore.

Police commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar said the accused, who had injured himself in the knees, feet and back during the escape, was arrested from Kudlu gate in Bangalore south on the Tamil Nadu border.

The special police team arrested Jaishankar with the help of an informant who received a call from him asking for a vehicle to escape, Auradkar told reporters.

Ten thousand posters and 75,000 pamphlets with photographic profiles of Jaishankar were printed in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi and Hindi and sent to Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Maharashtra, he said.

Jaishankar, who belongs to Kanyapattanam Konasamudra village in Tamil Nadu's Salem district is considered a psychopath and was recently sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in a trespass, rape and murder case.

He is facing trial in more than 20 cases in Chennai, Dharmpuri, Hosur, Salem, Tirupattur of Tamil Nadu and Bangalore Rural, Chitradurga, Hiriyur, Kadur, Molakalmur and Tumkur in Karnataka.
