Battle for supremacy

india Updated: Feb 19, 2008 21:26 IST

In the most eagerly awaited series of the year, India take on Australia in Australia, a challenge that is considered to be the stiffest in modern day cricket. Australia would like to carry on their winning streak and continue to be the undisputed champions of the world. India, on the other hand, would give anything to register their first ever series win in Australia.

The Indians seriously challenged the Australians the last time they met on Aussie soil, with the series ending in a 1-1 draw and then lost the home frontier they had guarded for more than three decades, the Aussies winning 2-1.

Beating the champions on their turf would be the biggest cricketing honour. Captain Kumble is aware of the enormity of the challenge. He, along with Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, the legends of Indian cricket in the past 15 years, would also be aware of the fact that this is perhaps their last chance to scale cricket's tallest summit.
