An 18-year-old BBA student and his accomplice were arrested by th police from Bhojpur area near Modi Nagar town of Ghaziabad on Thursday for murdering a senior citizen couple in their sleep.

Police said the accused had also taken gold worth Rs 3 lakh, a Wagon-R car and cash on December 22 night from the victims’ house.

The police arrested prime accused Rahul Gurjar, a resident of Simbhavli area, and Sonu Gurjar for dacoity and murder at the house of a government teacher Jai Karan Singh.

Five people, including the two arrested, had barged inside Singh’s house and strangulated the couple.

Six months before the incident, Singh had taken up the responsibility of helping Rahul in his education and other needs.

“Being a teacher, my father had brought him (Rahul) up like a son at our house when he was leaning towards criminal activities. He helped him financially and also got him admitted to a BBA course at a management college in Meerut. But his malicious intentions were revealed and he murdered my parents,” said the victim’s son Naresh Khatana, a senior quality manager with a MNC in Greater Noida.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said Rahul wanted to make fast money. “He took advantage as the couple was staying alone at their residence and their three sons worked elsewhere. He conspired with his four accomplices, murdered and robbed the elderly couple,” SSP added.

Investigations revealed that the accused (Rahul) had forcibly taken away victim’s Wagon-R car and R10,000 a week before the murder. On December, 22, Singh called a panchayat with Rahul’s family members to resolve the matter and persuade the accused to return back the valuables.

Undeterred, Rahul allegedly called up Singh the same day and asked if the couple was alone at home or not. Later, the five accused barged inside the residence and strangulated the two victims in their asleep.

Police said that efforts were on to nab the other three absconding accused.
