The summer vacations are almost here, and the last thing you want is for your children to be cooped up at home. From pottery and storytelling to theatre and science, there are plenty of fun and engaging workshops that kick off this month. Take our pick of the best activities for your kids, around the city.
What: Pottery Workshop
Where: Courtyard, High Street Phoenix, Lower Parel
When: April 9, 2 pm onwards
The April edition of High Street Phoenix’s Talent Tuesdays will see instructors from The Nalanda Foundation conduct a one-day workshop on pottery. The event will also showcase works created by the students of the foundation. “Pottery is a therapeutic activity that we are sure visitors will love indulging in,” says Aarti Gandhi, director, The Nalanda Learning Facilitation Programme. The youth theatre group, Silly Point Productions, is conducting a series of theatre workshops at multiple locations in the city. Catering to students between the ages of eight and 18, the classes will focus on teaching the basics of scripting, acting, team-building and developing confidence on stage. What: Storytelling workshop

When: April 15 onwards
To revive the age-old tradition of storytelling and recitation, Story Nest is inviting children between the ages of four and 16 to explore the art at this workshop. Dramatic narrations of well-known stories like The Pied Piper of Hamelin, among others, will be conducted. “At the end of the workshop, students will present what they have learnt at a show,” says instructor Sherrin Mathews, who is a professional storyteller and also hosts other parenting workshops in the city. Junoon is known for their work in theatre and conducting innovative workshops for children throughout the year, They are now organising a special summer batch of their Arts at Play workshops. If your child is a whiz-kid, hone his/her skills with iRobokid workshops, which promote basic robotics with an integrated curriculum that includes the development of mathematics, science and technology skills. The sessions introduce children to the world of robotics in a fun manner and are designed to let kids explore the marvels of science and technology on their own terms. The workshop offers two programs — iEngineer (for ages seven to nine) introduces them to simple machines, while iProto (ages nine to 14) is designed to boost their knowledge of robotics and programming. It was the summer of 1997 when Harry Potter, the bespectacled boy wizard, walked into our lives through the sheer genius of JK Rowling’s writing. This summer, Raell Padamsee’s Academy for Creative Expression (ACE) takes you into the magical world of Harry Potter through a workshop designed around excerpts from the series. Through this interactive workshop, kids can not only inculcate valuable lessons embedded throughout the series, but also increase social interaction through theatre games and role playing. They can also build on their creative skills and imagination through the use of props and free-flowing thought. Enroll your child into a fun, physical training workshop at Amit Lalwani’s kickboxing academy. The institute is organising workshops in kickboxing, Muay Thai and self-defence tactics for children. The classes will commence at Saifee Hospital, Charni Road and will take place on Tuesdays, Fridays and Mondays.
