Oscar nominee Dame Helen Mirren thinks that soccer ace David Beckham will make a “wonderful” actor – but only if he is offered silent roles.
Beckham, who has signed a record 128 million pounds deal with American soccer club LA Galaxy, and is due to join them later this year once his contract at Spanish giants Real Madrid runs out at the end of the current season, is reportedly also taking acting classes to help him when an offer comes along.
However, The Queen star Dame Helen thinks that his high-pitched, squeaky Essex accent might be more hindrance than help for any future movies, and told USA Today that Becks would be best in a role that doesn’t require him to speak.
"If he had a role where he didn't have a big, long speech, maybe a silent role, I think he'd be wonderful in that," the Daily Mail quoted him, as saying.
Meanwhile Becks has already taken his first steps into the world of showbiz by posing as Prince Philip from the beloved fairytale classic Sleeping Beauty for an advertisement campaign for Disney.
But, even as speculation is rife that the former England soccer captain will give up the soccer field for the glittering lights of Hollywood, his public relations team insist he will stick to doing what he does best – playing football.
