A Bengaluru man has been arrested for kidnapping and murdering three children -- aged 4, 6 and 8 -- so that he could marry their mother.
Faheem Baig, an electrician who was held on Monday, confessed to dropping the children into a manhole that was overflowing with sewage after picking them up from school.
DCP east N Sateesh Kumar told Hindustan Times that Baig's family had opposed his plan to marry the woman because she already had children. Instead of trying to find a solution, he decided to kill the children.
The woman, identified as Nagina Begum, and Baig lived in the same area, the KG Halli neighbourhood of Bengaluru. The woman's husband had left her a year ago and moved to Hyderbad.
The children -- Sultan, 4, Afreen, 6, and Afnan, 8 -- went missing on August 27 and a massive manhunt was launched for them. But it wasn't until Sunday that the woman revealed her relationship with Baig to the police.
On being questioned, Baig confessed that he had picked up the children from school on August 27. They followed Baig, as he was a regular visitor to their house. That night, he killed them.
