Gelato Vinto
Let the desserts of ancient Rome delight you. The menu here is impressive, with flavours ranging from plain Vanilla to Bubblegum. A must-try is the Berry Berry Good, which gives you a choice of toppings — strawberry, wild berry, blueberry and cherries. Chocoholic Anonymous is made of rich Belgian chocolate, and you can choose from Lindt, Tobelerone, Twix or KitKat chocolate as toppings. Everything is egg-free, and there’re diet gelatos for the health-conscious.

Siyaram Nannumal Kulfiwale
Old Delhi has many hidden gems and this is one of them. The kulfi shop has been in business for decades and is popular for its rich creamy kulfis. The fruit kulfis are runaway favourites, with flavours including Chikoo, Guava, Melon, Strawberry and Pomegranate. They are sold in kulhars (earthen bowls). They also make Kulfi Gulab Jamun and Kulfi Fried, which are worth a try. Of course, the Malai Kulfi continues to be the most asked-for item on their list.

Kuremal Mohanlal Kulfiwale
This tiny, sparsely-furnished shop has created a name for itself since it opened in 1908. The secret ingredient in their kulfis — of which they have over 50 varieties — is the attention paid to the smallest details. The milk, for instance, is sourced only from Hapur in Uttar Pradesh! The must-try flavours are Anar, Aam Papad, Sharifa, Anjir and Phalsa. But nothing beats the stuffed mango kulfi — seedless alphonso mango stuffed to the brim with delicious kulfi!

Baskin 31 Robbins
This 65-year-old American chain of ice cream parlours is known for its range of 31 flavours of ice cream, all of which are 100 per cent vegetarian. The most popular are Mint Chocolate Chip, Honey Nut Crunch, Gold Medal Ribbon and Chocolate Mousse. Have them in a waffle cone to add crunch to each mouthful. This year, in a bid to woo the Indian palate, the ice cream chain has launched a kulfi-flavoured ice cream ! They even do ice cream cakes on order.

KB Kulfi and Ice cream
Unique kulfis and ice creams are the forte of this popular chain of shops. The Paan Ice Cream, containing mashed betel leaves, is a must-try, as is the Gulkand ice cream. Instead of the regular malai or kesar pista kulfis, we suggest you try the Chocolate, Strawberry and Mango Matka kulfis for the sheer novelty. The calorie-conscious can indulge in any of the sugar-free stick kulfis. The service is extremely efficient, so you won’t have to wait much for your order.

Cocoberry
Move over ice cream, hello yogurt! This swanky chain of concept stores offers zero-fat, low calorie frozen yogurts. Chocolate, blackberry, strawberry, mango, green apple and blueberry are some flavours that have featured on the menu, which changes monthly. The real treat is the choice of toppings —
from fresh fruits to gummy bears, Oreos and marshmallows, allows one to create a personalised treat. The joint also offers fresh fruit smoothies and snacks.

Giani’s
Most flavours are the usual suspects like chocolate and strawberry, but it’s the rich and creamy seasonal fresh fruit ice creams — mango, jamun and litchi, for instance — that are the shop’s top draws. Those looking to indulge themselves more, should opt for either Punjabi Delight, that’s laden with dry fruits, or the in-house specialty that’s cheekily named Kucch Nahin Sundae (Nothing Sundae) — it literally contains all the ice creams and ingredients in the shop!

Giani di Hatti
It is one of the oldest ice cream outlets in the city and its location outside the Old Delhi station ensures that the place is always crowded. The rich rabdi faluda, served in a huge glass, laden with dry fruits and crushed ice, is a crowd favourite. A single glass is priced economically at R35. The Traffic Jam sundae is another hot seller here. Other offerings here are milk shakes, sorbets and gelatos. In winters, they do stock delicious urad dal ka halwa and gajar ka halwa.

Häagen-Dazs
A premium American ice cream brand that set shop in the city amidst much controversy, but now has a large following of fans who crave gourmet stuff and exotic flavours. Popular flavours are Belgian Chocolate, Choc-choc-chip, Coffee, Vanilla, Chocolate, Mango Sorbet, Cappuccino Truffee, Macadamia Nut Brittle, and Melon. We also recommend the fresh fruit sorbets here. The place also offers sorbets and frozen yogurts.

Nirula’s
Nirula’s lays claim to being Delhi’s first ice cream parlour, and four decades on, it continues to impress with its range of creamy ice creams, with Jamoca Almond Fudge, 21 Love and Nutty Buddy being all-time favourites. The Hot Chocolate Fudge Sundae might have reduced in portion over the years, but it still beats all other versions in the city, hands down. In ice cream sodas, try the Lime Ice Soda. The rest of the menu spans fast food staples.

Gourmet Ices
Atiny space that’s a haven for ice cream lovers pining for rich and creamy ices, especially ones made with fresh fruits. The menu features flavours you will not easily find elsewhere in the city — Black Grapes, Passion Fruit, Tiramisu and even Special Liquor flavours (available only in 1-litre tubs, unfortunately). Suffused with the aroma and taste of a real mango, the Mango Ice Cream scores over even the exotic Roasted Almond. There’re sugar-free ice creams, too.
