A wine blog written by a prolific British wine journalist has been named the best on the internet. Announced in Portland, Oregon over the weekend, London-based wine writer Jamie Goode's wineanorak.com musings snagged the title of Best Overall Wine Blog at the 2012 Wine Blog Awards, besting more than 500 submissions.
Goode is also the wine columnist for the British newspaper The Sunday Express.
On wineanorak.com, Goode reviews bottles giving tasting notes, scores and price points, in addition to observations of the wine trade industry -- the routine practice of "detoxing" among wine professionals, for instance, is nonsense, he says in one post, while the price tag on a bottle doesn't always make it the best, he asserts in another.
Goode was among nine winners at the Wine Blog Awards, which included categories like Best New Wine Blog and Best Writing, to Best Winery Blog and Best Wine Reviews.
About 300 wine bloggers and journalists attended the fifth annual conference.
The awards were open to any English-language wine blog in the world, and were voted upon by the public and a panel of judges that included wine journalists, authors, social media experts and consultants.
