Doctors advise people to follow disciplined lifestyle to avoid heart ailments as possibilities of such problems increase during winters.

According to doctors, the number of heart patients has gone up three times in the last few days and it could increase further, if preventive measures are not taken. From Navratra till Lohri, many people in north India prefer fat-rich diet which creates health problem.

"Possibilities of heart attack and stroke increase during winters. Those suffering from high or low blood pressure should get themselves examined regularly and get their medicine adjusted," said Dr B Kalra, senior cardiologist, Artemis Health Institute.

According to Dr Deepak Khurana, senior consultant, cardiac surgery, healthy diet along with some exercises is the mantra to avoid risks.

"The winter season causes excess load on the body to generate heat to keep the body warm, hence heart too has to work harder, leading to heart attacks or chest pain. In the name of good diet we start taking cholesterol-rich diet which exaggerates the situation," Dr Khurana said.

Those suffering from high blood pressure should get themselves regularly examined and get the correct dosage of medicine.
