JUST AS the new vice-chancellor took charge at KGMU on Friday, almost eight teachers resigned from their administrative posts, triggering speculations on the campus.
Had the resignations come one day later than Prof Bhandari’s exit, it would have passed off as a routine affair. Meanwhile, it is expected that the KGMU administration might accept the resignation of proctor and the controller of examination and give these responsibilities to teachers from ophthalmology and urology departments. Until a final decision is taken the teachers have been asked by new V-C Dr SK Agrawal to continue on their posts. Resignations were handed to outgoing V-C Prof Bhandari but he referred the matter to Dr SK Agrawal saying the decisions in this regard would be taken by the new V-C.
Among those who gave their resignations, included proctor Dr VK Singh along with his team in the proctorial board, honorary librarian Dr Madhumati Goel and Controller of Examination Dr SK Das.
The resignations came just as Dr SK Agrawal took over charge from Prof Mahendra Bhandari in the morning.
Some said the resignations came as a sign of loyalty towards the outgoing V-C while the other group of teachers was of the view that this was a custom that teachers resign from administrative posts as the new head comes.
“We are yet to decide on the resignations. Till we decide the same, teachers would continue to hold these offices,” said Dr SK Agrawal.
Rumours were spread on campus about a resignation by Registrar Prof US Pandey also but he categorically denied any such attempt. “Why should I resign when everything is going on fine?” he asked.
