Five persons including a Bhojpuri serial actor were arrested for allegedly decamping with hired vehicles after killing drivers, police said on Wednesday.

The accused were identified as Bharat Bhanushali (31), actor Sanjay Tripati(32), Deepak Dubay (31), Nageshwar Rao (57) and Shabbir Ali Sujat Ali (52), they said.

Joint Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria said the accused used to hire vehicles from travel agents on pretext of traveling a long distance and after a few hours of drive, they used to ask driver to pull over at isolated places and kill them.

The probe, so far, revealed that they had committed four such crimes in which two drivers were killed while two survived, he said.

On May 4, they hired an Innova vehicle from Vile Parle on pretext of going to Pune, he said, adding that when they reached Lonavala, they asked the driver Narayan Jagtap (22) to stop the vehicle.

“After sometime, they poured some liquid made of sleeping pills in driver’s mouth and strangulated him,” Maria said, adding that driver’s body was found on road.

Similarly, they hired two more vehicles for a long distance traveling on May 14 and June 2 from Solapur in Maharashtra and Surat in Gujarat respectively, he said.
