A B Sc student of Banaras Hindu University was punished by the varsity on Wednesday for sending vulgar SMSes to his female batch-mates and posting objectionable comments about them on Facebook.

The student, Gaurav Ranjan, (VIth semester-Statistics) from Jharkhand, has been troubling the girls for two years now.

The BHU administration barred him from the semester exams and suspended him from classes for three months.

The varsity also ended his hostel facilities and barred him from taking admission to any other course in BHU in future, BHU spokesman Prof Rajesh Singh said.

Cops from Lanka police station recorded the statements of Gaurav as well as the two female students, but owing to requests by the two girls not to take any legal or police action in the matter, the cops did not lodge any case against the boy.

Informed sources told HT that the B.Sc student had been troubling two or three female batch mates for a long time through phone calls and SMSes. He also posted vulgar comments about two of his female batch-mates on Facebook on November 21.
