Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said on Monday that he would ask Chief Minister Ashok Chavan to rescind the transfer order of Nashik police commissioner VD Mishra.

The request by Bhujbal, senior NCP minister and former Home Minister, comes amid the growing public support for Mishra and the spontaneous demonstrations in Nashik, against the IPS officer's transfer.

Bhujbal is guardian minister of Nashik and his nephew Sameer Bhujbal won the recent Lok Sabha election from the constituency. Opposition Shiv Sena-BJP alliance is also seeking a stay on Mishra's transfer.

Home Minister Jayant Patil last week announced that Thane joint commissioner V Lokhande would succeed Mishra whose request for a Central deputation has been accepted by the State Government.
