State PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal said government has so far provided financial assistance of Rs 1.20 crore to the flood affected people here and has spent Rs 15,000 on their rehabilitation.

He said, after taking stock of the situation last evening, that "panchanamas" of 3851 houses and 741 shops had so far been completed and government was providing them financial assistance as per losses caused due to the flood of September 19 in Godavari river.

About 850 quintals of food grain and 27,000 litres of kerosene were distributed to the affected people.

Tin-sheds are being erected temporarily in Mumbai-Naka area to shift people here, he said.

Bhujbal, who is also guardian minister of the district, said that crops in 390 hectres in 17 villages were damaged in the flood.

According to experts, constructions on or near the river bank caused flood in the river this year.

They have urged government to remove these obstructions from river bank to stem floods in future.

The government has also a plan to raise the height of Gangapur dam to prevent such situations arriving in future.
