Big B? a small grouse

ALOK NATH, the humble Haweliram of popular television serial Buniyad, has a small grouse that had he received similar kind of attention and hype that superstar Amitabh Bachchan received, he could have scaled greater heights.

Nath, who was in the City to promote his upcoming serial ‘Ghar….Ek Sapna’ on Sahara One, told reporters here on Saturday that even Bachchan had great downs in life and remained absent from the minds of people for a few years.

“The media and public supported him during his comeback with KBC and then Bachchan had no looking back. Every actor does not get such positive focus from media after deliberately avoiding lensmen and journalists in the past,” opined Nath.

The senior actor remarked that he worked with top banners but calls it a matter of luck that none of them bought him the deserved accolades. Nath, who played Bachchan’s father in the super hit Hindi movie Agnipath, however said that Bachchan is a great actor.

On a rather optimistic Nath also wished to play the role that Shahrukh Khan enacted in remake of Don. Looking much younger than his screen image and dressed in a chic shirt, Nath said that the audience would see him as a film director in few months from now. A believer in astrology, Nath would stay away from becoming a producer as a ‘pandit’ has asked him not to go for it.

When asked about lack of variety in his characters in films and serials, Nath said it was purely a professional hazard because people have liked him in the role of a father so directors offer him such characters. “The only thing that I find repetitive is the number of marriages I have arranged in films. That is one thing I stay away from in real life”, revealed Nath.

The still enthusiastic Nath, who acted in blockbuster films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and Hum Saath Saath Hain, voted Buniyad and Maine Pyar Kiya as his favourite serial and film respectively.

Among the actors he named Naseeruddin Shah, Kamal Hassan, Manoj Vaypayee and Rani Mukherjee as his favorites. “Actors are judged as big and small on the basis of the fee they charge. If it was for acting potential, dedication and good banners I could have been a star today,” rued Nath.

Nath left theatre years ago and now plans to concentrate more on television serials, as they are a constant source of fame and income. “I still have years to go before retirement and am still as curious and eager about new roles as ever”, asserted Nath.
