There is no change in the category of security cover provided to Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil said in Mumbai on Monday.
"He continues to get the 'X' category of security and there is no change in the category", Patil told reporters at his official residence in Mumbai on Monday evening when asked to comment on Samajawadi Party leader Amar Singh's allegation that the state government had scaled down the actor's security.
"Review of security cover provided to VIPs and others is a regular process and no one should give a political colour to it", Patil, who also holds the home portfolio, said.
Singh had on Sunday charged Patil and NCP chief Sharad Pawar of cutting the security of Bachchan and SP MP Abu Asim Azmi.
"I have great respect for Bachchan. He is being provided the same type of security cover as he gets while in Uttar Pradesh or Delhi", Patil said.
As a result of the recent review of VIPs security, around 750 policemen, who are part of the police teams deployed in VIP security, would now be available for other police work, he said.
A meeting on the issue of security cover to VIPs would be held in Mumbai on Tuesday, Patil said. "If necessary, changes would be made (in the type of security cover) in respective cases", he said.
