The good old days of flourishing live music in the city may be hard to bring back, but all is not lost. This Sunday you may just be able to relive the glory of the bygone era with the triple offerings of music, food and art, put together at a heritage locale in the city.

The organisers promise that the event, which is part of a new initiative, Mumbai Matinee, will be a "brunch with a sound". The afternoon will feature performances by singers Shefali Alvares, Sidhharth Basrur and Shawn Pereira along with other musicians.

Brunch"South Mumbai has the most amazing heritage sites which have become redundant properties despite being located in the prime spot. Liberty Cinema is a great art deco venue which has great acoustics, making it the perfect place to have this gig," says Shom Jagtiani, director, Indigo Music Pvt Ltd, organisers of the event.

Mumbai Matinee will be held on one Sunday of every month and will feature a different line-up of artistes each time. Jagtiani feels that this effort will not only drive the crowds back to SoBo, but also fuel the revival of age-old venues. "Why go to a chic club when you can get the best music and top class food here? Plus, this is also a chance for these venues to refurbish themselves to host more such events."

Last month, Liberty Cinema also hosted a promotional gig in the run up to the Bacardi NH7 Weekender Festival, slated to be held in Pune from November 2-4.

Ask Jagtiani about the art exhibition that will also be part of the cultural package, and he says, "That is a surprise. I’d like people to come and witness for themselves this experience."

Catch Mumbai Matinee on Sunday, October 28, from 11.30 am onwards at Liberty Cinema, Marine Lines. The brunch is priced at Rs 2000 per person and includes the performance.
