Bihar assembly on Friday passed by voice vote the Rs 2177.26 crore third spplementary budget and the related appropriation bill for the current fiscal after guillotining the demands of 50 departments except for water resources development department.
Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, also the finance minister had presented the third supplementary budget for 2008-09 along with the revenue surplus budget of Rs 47,466 crore for 2009-10 on February 25 in the state assembly.
In the supplementary budget for the current fiscal, Rs 1255.16 crore had been sought under non plan head, Rs 687.43 crore under plan head, Rs 162.24 Crore under central plan heads and Rs 72.43 crore for the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes, Modi said.
The budgetary demand for water resources development department totalling over Rs 221 crore was also passed by vote after Pradip Joshi(Ind) withdrew his cut motion.
Replying to the debate Bihar Minister for Water Resources Development department Brijendra Prasad Yadav told the house that out of Rs 221 crore that would be spent on different projects, Rs 157 crore had been earmarked for plugging the breach of Kosi embankment at Kushaha that had caused a deluge in five north Bihar districts in August last year.
