Bihar animal husbandry and fisheries minister Baidyanath Sahni had to face protests from villagers when he went to lay the foundation stone of a petrol pump at Nikashpur in Samastipur, his home district, on Wednesday.
The protesters, armed with lathis and sticks, were opposing opening of a petrol pump on the land of a college in the village under Morba block. They also burnt a few tractors parked on the college campus.
Sahni, who took shelter in a college room to escape the ire of the villagers, alleged hands of the BJP and anti-socials behind the incident.
The police escorted the minister safely from the venue to his home, the superintendent of police Babu Ram said.
