The proposed rallies by two political heavyweights of Bihar seem to have widened the rift between a legislator and her estranged husband.

Rupauli MLA Bima Bharti, who is trying her best to ensure stronger representation from her constituency at Adhikar rally of chief minister Nitish Kumar, on Thursday accused her husband Awadhesh Mandal of plotting to kill their son.

Mandal, against whom Bharti's divorce petition is pending in the court, is seeking people's support for the success of Rashtriaya Janata Party (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad's Parivartan rally.

"Mandal is creating stumbling blocks in my way to bolster support for the Adhikar rally," Bharti said at the private hospital where her son is undergoing treatment after a suspected case of poisoning.

She alleged that her son was poisoned by none other than her husband.

Bharti’s son Raja Kumar, 13, took ill soon after he returned from a fair at Bhitta village in the district on Wednesday evening.

Later, the MLA rushed her son to the private hospital in Rupauli where the doctor said it was a suspected case of poisoning.

After Bharti accused her husband of plotting to kill Raja Kumar, the police registered a case against Mandal.

While the boy is said to be out of danger, the police are looking into the matter.

Mandal, however, denied the charges. He said he was currently busy making arrangements for RJD chief’s Parivartan rally at Katihar on November 7 and Purnia on November 8.

Mandal, a criminal-turned-politician, had unleashed terror in the region while operating the notorious Faizan gang. Many criminal cases of serious nature are still pending against him in various courts of Kosi and Purnia divisions.
