Seven coaches of the Amrapali Express, travelling from Katihar to Amritsar, derailed near Khagaria in Bihar early morning on Sunday.
No casualties or injuries have been reported so far. Five sleeper coaches and two AC class coaches derailed.
The incident occurred just after the train left Pasraha station around 1am, as per TV reports.
The district authorities, including the railway officers, reached the spot and launched operations to put the strayed bogies on the railway track.
“Accident relief trains have already reached the site. Certain trains from Katihar-Malda-Jamaldaha to Patna are being diverted and some passenger trains cancelled,” said Anil Saxena, Railway PRO.
Seven coaches of 15707 UP Katihar-Amritsar Express including one AC-2, one AC-3 and five sleeper coaches jumped the track in between Patraha and Gouchari at around 1.14am, chief public relations officer of East Central Railway, Arvind Kumar Rajak, told PTI in Patna. Rajak said the cause of derailment is under probe.
Routes of nearly half-a-dozen trains including New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express, New Jalpaiguri-Danapur Capital Express and Anand Vihar-Jogvani Seemanchal have been diverted via Bhagalpur due to the derailment.
