University teachers in Bihar have deferred their indefinite strike from April 18 following assurance from the state government on implementation of the sixth UGC pay package within two months, official sources said on Tuesday.
The strike had been called by Federation of University Teachers Associations of Bihar (FUTAB), Federation of University Service Teachers' Association of Bihar (FUSTAB) and Bihar State University and College Employees' Federation (BSUCEF) and separate agreements with them were signed by the state human resources department yesterday, the sources said.
The government agreed to implement the sixth UGC package in toto with effect from January 1, 2006 within two months, the sources said.
The government also agreed to increase the retirement age of the teachers to 65 years.
The agreement was signed by the state HRD minister and principal secretary and senior office bearers of the three unions.
