As the BJP’s dream of coming to power in Bihar got shattered, the party also suffered a partial setback in its plans to inch towards the majority mark of 123 in the Rajya Sabha.

Lalu Prasad’s path is clear to send his daughter Misa Bharati or any trusted lieutenant to the Rajya Sabha next year. Prasad’s daughter had contested the Lok Sabha polls but lost in Patliputra.

Five Rajya Sabha seats are up for grabs in July 2016 but the BJP’s poor performance may get them just one while the Grand Alliance will walk away with the four other berths. All five seats are up for the biennial elections in 2016 belong to the JD(U).

The NDA, which enjoys a brute majority in Lok Sabha has just 62 seats in the 245 memberstrong Upper House. In July 2016, the NDA, along with issue-based supporters is likely to reach 109 seats.
