The mobike used in the sensational murder of former Virgin Atlantic airhostess Sheeba Thomas has been traced to Jitendra Yadav, a notorious criminal, police say.

Yadav surrendered before the court of the chief judicial magistrate in Noida Phase II on Thursday afternoon.

UP Director General of Police Vikram Singh said Yadav surrendered in connection with another murder case. “He is also the main suspect in the latest attacks, since a motorcycle used to commit a spate of crimes on Tuesday night has been recovered from his house,” he said.

Rattled by the crime spree, the state government on Thursday despatched a posse of top officials to Noida. Principal Secretary (Home) JN Chamber and DGP Singh visited the crime scenes and held a series of meetings with police officers.

On Tuesday night, a gang of biker thugs killed Thomas, shot at a retired lieutenant general, and robbed three motorists. “There’s no need to panic. We will get them (the attackers). Citizens’ security is our top priority,” Chamber said, adding that two policemen had been suspended for lax and irresponsible conduct, and as many served warnings.
