A MASTERLY stroke of 114 runs by Vivek against Agra enabled Bilaspur to enter final of the Sixth Manish Agnihotri Memorial All-India Cricket Tournament here on Saturday.
It was the third consecutive win for Bilaspur in the tournament. Winning the toss, Bilaspur elected to bat first. Apoorva Bhandari, the hero of last two matches, failed to repeat his performance. While trying to play infield, he was caught by Dheeraj on a delivery of Rajesh Gupta. He scored four runs.
P Vivek, who failed to complete his second century in the last match, demonstrated excellent batting skills. Smashing a century, he scored runs from every corner of the ground. His marathon innings of 114 runs was studded with two sixes. His strategy of rotating the strike helped the other end batsmen to release the pressure.
Giving good support to Vivek, second down Santosh Sahu chipped in with a well-made 50 runs. His 89-run partnership with Vivek helped the team to 200-run mark. However, Sahu lost his wicket while trying to steal a run.
Bilaspur set a target of 248 runs for Agra. Lalit Verma claimed the highest three wickets for the bowling side. Chasing the target, Agra failed to stand against the fine bowling of Bilaspur. Such was the attack that all bowlers claimed wickets.
Amit, P Yadav, Sushant, D Yadav and Santosh Sahu took two wickets each. Agra was bowled out for a paltry 170 runs. IG Bhopal Sanjeev Singh presented the man of the match award to Vivek.
BDCA Vice-President Aruneshwar Singhdeo, Sanjeev Agnihotri, J P Tyagi, R K Agnihotri, Milin Sagorkar and others were present on the occasion.
