Biranchi murder: Bombs thrown in jail housing Raja
Crude bombs were hurled at the high-security jail that houses gangster Raja Acharya, prime accused in Judo coach Biranchi Das murder.
Unidentified persons hurled crude bombs at the high-security jail where gangster Raja Acharya, prime accused in Judo coach Biranchi Das murder, and some other criminals were lodged, police said.
One bomb exploded inside the prison compound in Jharpara in Bhubaneswar on Saturday night releasing thick smoke with a defeaning sound, while the other failed to explode, police said today.
No one was injured and no damage caused to jail property in the incident, inspector in-charge of Laxmi Sagar police station B K Das said adding that a case has been registered in connection with the incident and efforts were on to nab the persons involved in the act.
Senior police and prison officials inspected the jail soon after the incident to take stock of the situation as a number of criminals were lodged, police said adding Raja Acharya, prime accused in Biranchi Das murder case, was also inside the special jail.
Describing the incident as an act of mischief by some people, they said the persons appeared to have thrown the bmbs from outside the jail compound.
The persons seemed to have fled the scene immediately after throwing the bombs, police said adding investigation was in progress and security further tightened in and around the prison.
